Cleveland Cavaliers 100 New York Knicks 90
By: Brian Hagerman

Madison Square Garden in New York. Michael Jordan played some of his best games there. Last night was LeBron James' second visit to the Garden this year. It also would be the last game of the year for the Cavs. Going into last night's contest, James was 3-0 versus the Knicks in his young career.

He didn't light up the house but played a good enough game to help the Cavs come away with another victory, 100-90, and sweep the season series four games to none.

James, the probable Rookie of the Year, scored 17 points, including a couple of inspired throwdowns. Jeff McInnis proved again why he is valuable, scoring a team-high 19 points and dishing out seven assists. With McInnis in the lineup, Cleveland improved to 20-11 on the year. With the win, the Cavs end the year on a three-game winning streak and more than doubled last year's win total. Cleveland (35-47) swept New York (39-42) for the first
time since the 91-92 season. The three-game winning streak came against three teams heading into the playoffs.

The Cavs got off to a lackluster start and Coach Paul Silas benched most of the starting five. New York jumped out to a 11-1 and extended it out to 20-9. Silas immediately started going to the bench. New York held a 24-13 lead with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. Then Cleveland got rolling. They went on a 16-0 run that started at the end of the first quarter and extended into the second period. During that run, the Knicks
went without any points for a 9:45 span.

The Cavs jumped out on top 29-24 and would take a 44-39 lead into the half. Both teams shot just above 40 percent in the first half.

The Cavs held their lead throughout the third period. After a couple of Mike Sweetney free-throws to start the fourth quarter, the Knicks were down 72-69. But the Cavs went on a quick 8-0 spurt, which included a huge McInnis buzzer-beater 3-pointer. Cleveland led 80-69 and New York never recovered.

Marbury tried to single-handedly carry the Knicks in the fourth period scoring 11 of his 27 points. He also had eight assists and six rebounds. New York finished in the seventh playoff spot and will face cross-town rival New Jersey in the first round.

The Cavs had many contributors last night. Carlos Boozer had another double-double, 14 points and 12 rebounds, to add to his season collection. Ira Newble chipped in with 14 points. Tony Battie had a nice game off the bench with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. DeSegana Diop also came off the bench to provide some help. He had nine rebounds, three big assists, and two blocks. One of Diop's blocks came on a Dikembe Mutombo layup, which got the Cavs bench roaring.

Kedrick Brown and Jason Kapono were the only Cavs' players that didn't get into the game.

For the Knicks, Kurt Thomas had 12 points and 12 boards. Tim Thomas scored 13 and Anfernee Hardaway went for 10 points. Nazr Mohammed chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Knicks outrebounded the Cavs 42-40, but Cleveland got the best of them in assists with a 22-13 margin. Both teams shot 48 percent from the floor and both teams hit on four 3-pointers.

The Cavs end the season on a high note.

Some stars out to see LeBron at MSG included, Gary Sheffield, Doc Gooden, and Jay Z with girlfriend Beyonce Knowles.
