Cleveland Cavaliers 109 Dallas Mavericks 126
By: Brian Hagerman

The Cavs hit the state of Texas with the hopes of coming out with a win or two, playing San Antonio and Dallas back-to-back. But no such luck. The Spurs dominated the Cavs. Last night's game against the Mavs was no different. Another game, another loss.

Behind the duo of Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash the Mavericks handed the Cavs their 43rd loss of the season with 126-109 romping. Cleveland had no answer for either of the Big Ns.

Nash and Nowitzki pick and rolled Cleveland to the bone. Still the Cavs couldn't find an answer for either of them. Nash had 31 points and 10 assists, while Nowitzki added 35 points and 18 rebounds. Zydrunas Ilgauskas, 26 points and four rebounds, couldn't handle Nowitzki defensively.

Coach Paul Silas came into the game trying to spark the offense. He inserted Lee Nailon into the starting lineup over Eric Williams. Nailon didn't disappoint with 23 points and 7 boards.

But it has been the defensive effort that keeps coming up short and last night was no different. Rookie Josh Howard came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points and undrafted rookie Marquise Daniels scored 17 points.

With the loss, the Cavs are assured of a losing season and fell two games back in the loss column out of the last playoff spot. After winning seven straight, they now have lost six out of their last seven.

After a dismal effort against the Spurs, Carlos Boozer rebounded literally. Boozer added 23 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. LeBron James had another stellar game with a line the consisted of 28 points, six assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Outside of Z, Boozer, Nailon, and LeBron, the rest of the entire Cavs team scored just nine points. Mateen Cleaves scored four of those points while dishing out six assists. The Cavs PG trio of Kevin Ollie, Cleaves, and DaJuan Wagner combined for 13 fouls while guarding Nash.

Like in San Antonio, the Cavs stuck with the Mavericks for three quarters and even led after the first period. Again, unfortunately for the Cavs, they play four quarters.

The Cavs led 32-28 after the first quarter behind Boozer's 13 points and 10 rebounds. The second quarter was much of the same - scoring. The Cavs went up 39-33 after a James dunk. Dallas soon took over and led by four 64-60 going into the half. James had an amazing dunk but after the buzzer sounded at the half.

Nailon and Ilgauskas combined to score the Cavs first 13 points of the third quarter as they led 73-72. The Mavericks took over from there and never looked back.

Dallas shot 54 percent from the floor while the Cavs shot 48 percent. Both teams had 44 rebounds. The Mavericks hit on 6-10 from 3-point land while Cleveland went 0-5 from long range.

Next up for the Cavs they play in Milwaukee on Friday night.
