The Cavaliers might have found a keeper in Shannon Brown. While it's a bit premature to say he'll barge into coach Mike Brown's rotation, after his performance in the Vegas Summer League, it's not out of the realm. ''He was impressive,'' the coach said. ''It was just the first step of many for him to make it in the NBA. He did some things that surprised me.'' The first-round pick from Michigan State paced the Cavaliers (3-2) in scoring at 14 per game in the five games. He also averaged 2.4 assists and 2.4 rebounds and shot 50 percent from the field. When Daniel Gibson missed one game with a minor knee ailment, Shannon Brown stepped in and ran the point. That opened a few eyes. ''His ability to handle the basketball was surprising,'' Mike Brown said. ''He basically played the point guard position in the game Daniel was out. I didn't think he was capable of doing that.
